Days 3 and 4: Toulouse, Patrick, Domaine de Cure & Carcassone

Oct 7, 2013 by

Due to spotty internet service yesterday, I was not able to post, so will have to cover 2 days in this post.  Yesterday, Saturday 10.6, we left our lovely hotel on Place des Vosges and flew to Toulouse, where we picked up a rental car and drove into Centre Ville to meet Patrick, who arrived the day before.  We met at the central Place de Capitole…Cafe Florida…for lunch.

Drove to Patrick’s very nice apartment just across the river and then on to our apartment at Domaine de Cure, located outside the small village of Conques-sur-Orbiel, about an hour from Toulouse.  Our hosts, Jean-Noel and Agatha, greeted us effusively and we settled in to our home for the week, La Source, in a building that dates back to 1800 and was once a horse barn.  Jean-Noel and Agatha have restored it beautifully and created 4 “gites” or cottages…we will be very comfortable  here.

Quick trip to Super-Marche Hyper where we loaded up on wine, beer (for Patrick), food and supplies.  Pat made us a nice dinner and then off to bed.

This morning we had a leisurely breakfast and then set out for the medieval walled town of Carcassonne, described by the guidebooks as “Disneyworld-perfect.”  Its fairytale collection of drawbridges, towers and atmospheric cobbled-stoned streets was reputedly the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.  It did not disappoint and we were enchanted.

Your photos are magnificent! What did you take them with? Are you doing a travel brochure? I’m jealous!
