Wedding in Charleston!

Jun 27, 2012 by

I have always wanted to visit Charleston SC, and last weekend I finally did.  Nephew Paul Carley was married to Emily Calhoun Hollings last Saturday in a lovely wedding at St. Mary of the Annunciation RC Church followed by a rollicking reception at Hibernian Hall.

Paul and Emily entering the reception to great fanfare!

We arrived Friday afternoon to sweltering temperatures (95 plus).  Dinner that night with family at Rue du John on John Street.  Good food and company, as cousins who live of different coasts reacquainted themselves and we adults got caught up.

Saturday the boys were off to the beach with Nora and husband Matt.  Pat and I explored Charleston and reveled in the historic eclectic architecture.  We particularly liked the Battery area by the water and the houses on East Bay Street.

Amazing flower boxes!

Best meal by far was at award-winning Husk, just across the street from our hotel on Queen Street.  Not only was our meal superb, but the bread blew me away!  I usually skip the bread, but this was so good, I actually asked for more.

So except for the extreme heat, loved our weekend in Charleston and would definitely go back!

Kate, Jim and I went there a few years ago and loved it! Your photos captured the beauty of the homes. I also thought those alleys between the townhomes were so charming. I’d retire there in a heartbeat! Glad you had a wonderful time!

What restaurant did you eat at? We are going to SC for vacation and will be going to Charleston for sightseeing and recreation. Loved looking at all the photos!
